Shostakovich Symphony No. 11

Image 1 of 5

Dmitri Shostakovich was alternately denounced and promoted by Stalin's Communist Party. His Symphony No. 11 is a deliberate rorschach; it might glorify the 1905 worker's revolution, or it might be a criticism of the contemporary (in 1956) party's oppression of revolutions. Either way, it climaxes at the end in awesome, bell-clanging, choir-roaring fashion. Get out the vote!
